The Residency Program

We define FLICAM as a museum of dynamic and living one which requires artists to participate. Not like most other museum just collect and display, a still type one. So, we can say that:

FLICAM = Museum + Continuing Residency program

So, our residency program is for keeping the museum alive. We are providing world ceramic artists with the opportunity to work in China and count on you to make the museum alive, It is a long commitment. In general, your first month work are for the Museum, we provide you accommodation and food but not travel cost. We also provide you all materials and working facilities. Then you earn the title to be with us and come back. When you come back again, all the facilities and materials and technology at the Fuping ceramic tile factory and in the Fuping Pottery Village are available for you to carry out their work, and also allow you to take about two third of your work home.

The working duration in Fuping is from April to November each year, and in this 8-month time period, the residency program can take about 10 artists a month for a period of 1-2 months. How ever, you need to apply for the availability.

Conditions of the FLICAM Residency Program

  1. Any artist who has participated the Museum contribution program has first choice to be resident candidates for working in Fuping. The duration is 1-2 months. FLICAM will accept one or two artists each year for each country.
  2. The participant has to spend at least two third of his time in Fuping to do ceramic work. The other one third of the time the participant can use it freely but when he is outside Fuping, he has to take care of his own expenses.
  3. The participants shall pay his own roundtrip airfare from his country to Xi'an/Fuping, China. He should also pay his trips outside Fuping in other parts of China.
  4. FLICAM will cover accomodation and food for the participant while he is in Fuping and also the materials he need to do the work. If special quality or quantity of materials are needed special permission has to be obtained from Fuping authority ahead of time.
  5. Fuping Pottery Art Village (FPAV) will provide necessary working facilities, labor assistance and technical assistances. Mass production work is considered as production work. Fees will be charged accordingly.
  6. Part of participants’ work will remain in FLICAM. The quantity for FLICAM possession shall never exceed one third of participant’s total work. Artists divided all their work into 3 piles and let FLICAM to select.  It is expected that one or two best pieces should set aside for the Museum. Participants can ship their portion of art work back to their own country at his own shipping cost, or can ask FLICAM to sell his work for him. In this case a 40% commission will be charged to the participant.
  7. If the quantity or quality of the work is good enough, FLICAM may consider an exhibition for the participant.
  8. FLICAM is not accepting family with children, spouse is possible but permission should be obtained before the artist arriving China. All spouse’s food cost will be charged at FPAV’s hotel rate. Lodging will be free if they stay together in one room.
